Tundra Conservation

In the tundra people are building windmills to reduce energy use and carbon emissions. They are planning on building one of the biggest windmill parks in the world. The people in the tundra use a lot less energy with the windmills, but this could be a bad to the animals of the tundra. Where the windmills are now was good for caribou and other animals to graze on. Now that the windmills are there, the caribou cannot eat there.

Also mining and drilling is popular in the tundra. The drilling and mining destroys the land and releases gases and poisonous dust into the air which causes air pollution. The gases and dust can be carried to nearby streams or ponds which pollute the water. Also the loud noise of the drilling can push tundra animals away from their homes. If the oil is spilled it can kill all the wildlife in that area too. Some solutions to this could be that they don't drill were there is a lot of wildlife to preserve the biome. They could also put the soil back to the way it was and let the plants grow back, like in secondary succession.

Another issue is the human increase in the tundra. People are starting to build recreation parks and towns are becoming more populated. This takes over the animals habitat and food sources. A solution to this may be to build good animal habitat somewhere away from towns and villages. You could also avoid building houses were there are a lot of food and shelter for animals.
